Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. (LALDEF)

The Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. (LALDEF) is a grassroots nonprofit organization formed to defend the civil rights of Latin Americans and facilitate their access to health care and education, as well as to advance cross-cultural understanding in the Mercer County area.   The organization leads the Mercer County Community ID Card program, provides ESL classes, educates their clients on their rights, and helps families learn how to advocate for their children in schools.   LALDEF wants to examine the impact immigrant families have on the local economy, conduct a community needs assessment, and investigate if and how advancing English skills leads to upward social mobility.
